Hi, new here.
Our oldest (Missy, also 7) sometimes does similar. It sounds like a snore or gasp. She's usually fine afterward, but it's concerning. Our vet calls it "snorking". She says it is similar to a human having a sneezing "attack", and says it is not uncommon for hounds, and if it happens frequently, have him checked. The last time our pooch did it for a couple of days in a row, it turned out she had a sinus infection.

I have a 4 month old beagle pup named Mia..I'm almost positive she does all this chewing because she is still a pup and I redirect her when she is chewing something she isn't suppose to but I was just wondering if anyone had some other helpful hints..I buy her new toys and she literally destroys them with in 24 hours. She also bits and nips alot..any suggestions? thank you mucho

Hi,

I'm new here so I am not sure if a similar topic has been posted.

Anyways, here goes:

I recently took in my brother's childhood Beagle. She is 16 years old. Since he is now grown and doesn't have the time to give her, I felt it was better to have her at my place than let her remain in the garage. She has a touch of arthritis in her leg, but is otherwise in surprisingly good health. She was probably neglected a lot, and hardly given the attention and companionship she should have had. Also since she was left in the garage her potty training is pretty much all gone.

I am not sure if she is deaf and blind or just very stubborn. But she rarely seems to respond to any commands. I am quite frustrated with the situation, but can't bare putting her back in the garage alone and during the winter months. Any advice on potty training or training of any kind would be appreciated. I am really just looking to make her remaining year(s) as happy as possible.

It's impossible to tell what it is without a physical exam by a veterinarian. Hopefully it is something simple...you really should get your dog to the vet to find out.

I think what you're experiencing is a normal behavioral thing for Beagles. It doesn't sound like there is any pain involved. My female, Mattie, used to do it from time time but I finally got her to stop.
